10.14. The Tomb Projects Shadows Onto Itself
(Location: Reflective Dome, Interior Crypt of Emperor Taisho)
Description:
This chamber was not part of the original museum map. Accessible only through a mirror corridor activated by twin footfalls, it resembled a planetarium—but concave. Instead of stars, the dome displayed shadows, moving slowly across the ceiling in perfect silence. The light source was unclear. Judai pointed to one shape. It was a frog—disproportionately large, leaping between images of train cars and film reels. Juna pointed to another—her own silhouette, distorted. “These are cast from the past,” she said. “But not our past.” The tomb uses visitors to project scenes from unrecorded regimes. The more you stay, the more you appear. They turned to leave—but their shadows did not.

Very Short Story:
Their shadows outpaced them. Judai tried to step left, but his shadow lagged behind. Juna lifted her hand. Her shadow moved first. The dome had learned their rhythm. “This is how it remembers us,” she said, “by predicting us just a little too soon.” One shadow began speaking in gestures. The other pointed. Neither was where it should have been. The ceiling grew darker. Not from the loss of light—but from overexposure to memory.
