15.20. The Signal That Called No Train
Location: Outermost Tracklight, Kyoto Switchyard Delta
Description:
At the farthest point of Kyoto’s Delta Switchyard stands a lone signal—green, always green. No track runs past it anymore, but the light glows steadily, pulsing slightly when names are spoken near it. Juna tried “Mukden.” Judai tried “Hirohito.” The green blinked. They recorded the signal’s rhythm and matched it to morse—it repeated “PROCEED.” But nothing ever comes. Locomotive ghosts pass in vibration only. The light is not for trains. It is for decisions. A permanent green that no one dares obey. Perhaps the most dangerous signal of all: one that only says yes.

Very Short Story:
They stood together, staring at the light. “It’s too easy,” Judai muttered. “Too certain.” Juna nodded. “That’s why no one trusts it.” She held out her book, and the cover shimmered green. A gust passed, as if some massive shape had just departed. But nothing moved. The air stayed alert. A hum persisted long after they left.
