19.23. The Undeclared Broadcast Tower

Location: Northern Ridge, Overlooking Nagasaki Shipyards
Description:
High above the shipyards on a windswept ridge stands an unregistered broadcast tower—one not found on any telecom map. It hums not with frequency, but with *memory*. Radios near it auto-tune to voices giving instructions for repairs on vessels never built, or weather reports for weeks that never came. Judai logs static pulses: they match Morse for “REMEMBER THE BLUEPRINT.” Juna hears a voice—her grandfather’s—giving coordinates in Russian. The tower’s shadow doesn’t align with the sun. A ladder ascends nowhere. The blinking red light atop the tower pulses to the rhythm of old Morse code film subtitles. The city beneath has forgotten the ships. But the tower hasn’t.

Keywords:
phantom transmitter, forgotten coordinates, Morse memory code, unbuilt ship repairs, static documentation

Very Short Story:
Juna touched the tower’s steel leg and heard her name whispered through her fillings. Judai turned his radio dial—every station gave a different year. A woman’s voice repeated, “Prepare hull five.” There had never been a hull five. Wind scraped the tower like a violin bow. Juna climbed two rungs, then stopped. “It’s not meant to transmit,” she said. “It’s remembering.” Judai looked through binoculars at the shipyards. He saw no workers, but shadows of vessels assembling themselves from light and echo. When they descended the ridge, their watches disagreed by seven minutes. Neither corrected them.
