20.4. Trinity Mirror in the Archive Hall
Location: Reflection Room, Nagasaki Atomic Archive
Description:
A three-paneled mirror stands behind glass in the reflection room of the Nagasaki Atomic Archive. Visitors are warned not to photograph it. Juna finds her reflection shifts subtly—her posture ages, her eyes rewind through tears she never shed. Judai sees not himself but the outline of a younger man holding a microphone. Archivists call it the Trinity Mirror—believed to have once stood at the Trinity Site in New Mexico before being quietly relocated. Each pane reflects a different time: the moment before detonation, the moment of silence, the moment after. No two visitors see the same sequence. Behind the mirror, archivists report hearing voices. But the audio tape never records anything.
Keywords:
Trinity Mirror, reflective time distortion, archive room, pre-flash echoes, temporal triptych
Very Short Story:
Judai stood before the mirror and felt himself split. In the left pane, he was a boy, unafraid. In the center, his image faded altogether. In the right, he stood older than ever, alone. Juna traced the frame and whispered, “Trinity.” She saw her father, though he had never visited Nagasaki. She saw a mushroom cloud fall inward, like a film rewinding. Behind the glass, an archivist nodded without moving. They left quickly, their reflections still visible as they walked away—moving on after they had gone.
