24.14. Archive of the Non-Indexed
Location: Upper Floor, Municipal Library Annex, Odaka
Description:
The annex holds no books—only boxes labeled with fragments: “Version C,” “Stairwell 3.2,” “Missing Before Found.” These are records without catalog, observations without date. Judai opens a drawer and finds photos of streets that never existed. Juna flips a card: “This was not your house.” The annex hums with misfiled precision. Each object denies origin. They begin assembling a map made of contradictions—buildings from different years standing side by side. A directory lists only verbs: “forget,” “replace,” “misalign.” Juna murmurs, “This is the archive of real events that never passed vetting.” They do not check anything out. Everything remains.
Keywords:
non-index archive, misfiled memory, alternate records, verb directory, Odaka miscatalog
Very Short Story:
They spent hours without realizing it. Each drawer revealed artifacts just plausible enough to unsettle. A birth certificate with Juna’s middle name—but she never had one. A film still featuring Judai, dated 1954. Neither spoke of it. In one corner, a projector began running on its own. The footage showed their arrival, five minutes ago, from a third angle. Juna whispered, “We’ve been remembered wrongly.” Judai responded, “Or more than once.” The annex didn’t correct them. It never does.
