24.17. Juna’s Encounter in the Repeater Orchard
Location: Communications Hill, Southern Tree Relay Sector
Description:
The orchard once grew apricots. Then it grew antennas—camouflaged as trees. Each one was tuned to re-broadcast emergency signals. Now, all it does is repeat what no one remembers saying. Juna walks the rows, listening to faint phrases looped from abandoned timelines: “Return if…” “You were never…” “Signal 7 at—” Each phrase caught in digital bloom, petals of static on wire branches. At tree 42, a voice says: “Juna, exit.” She does not flinch. Judai arrives from the east. “They recorded options,” he says. “Not events.” Together, they harvest fragments from the trees.
Keywords:
antenna orchard, looping messages, forgotten signals, digital bloom, spoken orchard
Very Short Story:
Juna paused beneath a tree shaped like memory. Its branches clicked. “This one’s waiting,” she whispered. The message repeated: “If—if—if—” until even the pauses became meaningful. Judai picked up a fallen speaker shell and it buzzed to life: “You must forget to finish.” Juna looked at him. “Maybe this was meant for us, just later.” He replied, “Or earlier.” They sat beneath a tree that never grew, letting the failed messages wash over them. Each misheard line became prophecy.
