24.3. The Horror of the Hollow Sun

Location: Reactor Periphery Shadowlands, Odaka District
Description:
To the east of Odaka, near the unspoken perimeter of Fukushima Daiichi, they encountered what they came to call the Hollow Sun. A place where the sun cast no warmth, only the illusion of light. The landscape there had the texture of photographic negative—fields inverted, children’s bikes rusted in perfect shape, wind echoing in a loop. The Hollow Sun was not astronomical, but psychological: a wound in the atmosphere where time forgot how to proceed. Juna marked the spot with salt. Judai dropped a watch into the earth. “Let’s bury our clocks,” he said. “This place runs on a different orbit.” And so the expedition paused—not to look, but to unlearn.

Keywords:
Fukushima edge, hollow light, psychological sun, untime, forgotten radiation

Very Short Story:
They arrived near twilight, but the shadows behaved like morning. The fields shimmered with unreality, too precise, too vacant. “We shouldn’t be here,” Judai said, not out of fear, but awe. Juna approached a broken sign and wiped it clean: its name had been bleached off by sunlight that seemed never to have landed. The birds didn’t land. The insects had become still diagrams. Above them, the sun gleamed—but offered no heat. It was an image of energy, but no longer the source. “What’s its name?” Juna asked. Judai said nothing, only placed a hand over his lens. The light was for no one. They turned back in silence.
