25.13. Fog That Forgets the Valley
Location: Northern Terraces, Odaka Outskirts
Description:
Each third day of the month, a fog rises that erases the entire northern terrace. Not just visibility—but sound, memory, outline. Juna stood there once and forgot her name. Judai recorded the fog’s arrival in a notebook that vanished a week later. Locals say the valley beneath was never truly rebuilt—only suggested. The fog comes not from the sea, but the valley floor itself, rising like an unspoken refusal. No birds cross it. No GPS functions within it. Once, a radio played a broadcast from 2010 when inside. They call it the Fog of Disremembering. Not dangerous—but devouring. It doesn’t want to hurt. It wants to be forgotten.
Keywords:
erasing fog, forgotten valley, memory erasure, time broadcast, Odaka weather ritual
Very Short Story:
They entered the fog hand in hand. Halfway through, Judai let go—but didn’t know why. Juna turned to speak and forgot the word “Judai.” They emerged on the other side holding unfamiliar tools and a watch running backward. “Were we looking for something?” she asked. “Or returning from something?” He didn’t know. The fog rolled away like a closing curtain. Behind it, the hillside remained—silent, unfinished, unreadable. They marked their location. Then watched the pen write nothing.
