25.5. Judai at the Weather Reconstruction Dome
Location: Outskirts of Odaka Science Park
Description:
A collapsed geodesic dome, once part of a weather pattern simulation facility, lies in the grass near Odaka’s northern boundary. Inside are rusted fans, evaporators, rainfall drums. Each machine built to mimic weather from a specific date: September 13, 2005. Judai enters and turns a crank. A faint mist issues from one pipe, followed by warm air, then the precise sound of drizzle. “It’s a memory,” he says. Juna records it. “But of what?” she asks. The air doesn’t feel like rain. It feels like memory misremembering itself. They sit inside the dome, waiting for lightning. It doesn’t come. Only wind, and a smell of future storms.

Very Short Story:
Judai cranked the old fan until it wheezed alive. A rain sound followed. But it wasn’t rain—it was the memory of rain. Juna sniffed the air. “There’s thunder in this, but it hasn’t happened yet.” The drum rolled softly. They stood inside an echo of a sky that never was. “We’re forecasting the past,” Judai joked. The wind grew sharp, not cold. The dome rattled. “It’s remembering us back,” Juna whispered.
