26.12. The Train Station That Departs Without Tracks
Location: Namie Elevated Platform, Terminal Zero
Description:
The station looks new, yet the schedule board lists no arrivals—only departures, repeating hourly. No tracks extend beyond the edge. No train has ever been documented. Yet witnesses report boarding. Some remember seeing lights, velvet seats, a conductor dressed like a memory. Juna finds a transfer slip in the grass, dated 1973. Judai checks a kiosk and finds a timetable filled with their names and years that have not occurred. “Terminal Zero,” the sign says, in perfect block letters. People come here to leave, but not for destinations—only for gaps, intervals, pauses in their timeline. A man whispers, “I took it once. It dropped me in a moment I’d forgotten.” The air smells like electricity and the past.

Very Short Story:
They stood on the platform. “There’s no track,” Judai said. “There doesn’t need to be,” Juna replied. A tone played—a clear chime from nowhere. The digital board updated: Next departure: You. They didn’t board. But later that night, Judai couldn’t remember a ten-minute stretch from that afternoon. “Maybe we did,” he said. “Maybe it runs on absences.” They checked their pockets. Each held a stamped ticket marked: RETURN UNCERTAIN.
