(Location: Disaster Index Marker, Northern Ridge of Tokyo)
Description:
The monument is a vertical slab of composite stone, etched with marks labeled *Disaster 1* through *Disaster ∞*. Next to each: a date, a height in meters, a silence. Juna reads them aloud like psalms. “This one is the height the flood reached. This one is how high the denial rose.” Judai climbs the steps to the viewing platform, a brass disc engraved with war years re-scored into seismic waves. Around them, schoolchildren whisper and measure themselves against the markers. “We are the scale now,” Juna says. The monument does not rise higher—it recedes into meaning. On the reverse side, faint scratches form a spiral: *Conflict is elevation.* Beneath it: *But only from afar.* A war’s footprint, made vertical.

Very Short Story:
Juna stood against the monument and realized it had grown since she last came. Judai read the latest etching: “Updated after the 2032 Revision.” No one had remembered that war. Yet its height had been marked. They climbed to the top. On the platform, they found a shoebox sealed with wax. Inside, a folded map of Tokyo—its terrain flattened. “It was taller before,” Juna said. “So were we.” They descended in silence, wind brushing their backs like flags retreating.
