5.10. The Monument to Unfinished Speeches

(Location: Cracked Plaza, Northeast Sector of the Government Quarter)

Description:
Atop a granite pedestal stand 18 bronze microphones, each pointing in a different direction. This is the Monument to Unfinished Speeches—dedicated to addresses never delivered. The plaques beneath them are blank. Juna touches one and it begins to hum faintly, emitting fragments of half-started phrases: “My fellow ci—,” “We gather—,” “Today marks—”. Judai reads a faint engraving: *All words were rehearsals for silence.* A faded photograph nearby shows a crowd that never assembled. Dried wreaths rest beneath the microphones. A new one has a tag: *To What Was Almost Said.* Crows roost above. As the sun sets, shadows of the microphones lengthen, converging into a shape that looks like an ear.

Keywords:
##oratorical ghosts
##unspoken history
##national silence
##incomplete declarations
##ceremonial fragments

Very Short Story:
They stood quietly. Juna raised her hand, mimicking a speechmaker, and said nothing. Judai tried to fill in the blanks—words rose in his throat, then fell. A soft buzz circled them. One microphone turned slightly. “It’s listening,” he whispered. “For what wasn’t said.” A child approached with a recorder and pressed PLAY. No sound came. And yet, they all turned to face the empty plaza, as if something had begun.
