7.5. Lost Tribes in a Tokyo Castle
(Location: Observation Deck A3, JOAC Overlook)
Description:
At dusk, the castle shimmered, revealing structures overlaid atop Tokyo’s skyline. Judai adjusted a polarization lens, revealing faded outlines of architectural memories—structures that didn’t exist, but somehow had. Juna identified one as the Castle of the Lost Tribes, an ephemeral space that arrived only during magnetic fluctuations and vanished before daybreak. Inside it were hundreds of corridors, each labeled in extinct alphabets. Maps on the walls referenced kingdoms that had never sent ambassadors. A child’s voice echoed in the observatory’s speaker, reciting names no empire claimed. The JOAC team, decades ago, had tried to translate these walls—but gave up when their own names began appearing. That night, the castle hovered a meter above the ground. It cast no shadow.

Very Short Story:
They watched it hover. A foot above the moss. No heat, no noise—just light caught in uncertainty. Juna traced the outlines of the doorways with her fingers. She couldn’t remember learning the symbols, but her hand knew them. Judai climbed a steel ladder nearby to see if the castle’s roof opened into sky. He found only more symbols: coordinates pointing nowhere. One hallway began to echo. It was her name, but backwards, sung by a thousand small voices. She stepped away. Not because it was frightening, but because some names are better left untranslated.
