5.4. The Edison Studio Mirror Room
(Location: Manchu Edison Archives, Changchun Zone Delta)
Description:
Beneath the preserved film vaults of the Manchu Edison Studios lies a small room surrounded entirely in mirrors—floor, ceiling, walls, even the lighting rig. This was where performers were brought to rehearse official emotions. Before they filmed war victory scenes, they stood here practicing conviction. Judai walks slowly, seeing himself reflected into infinity. Each version older, more tired. Juna finds a scrap of tape labeled *Defeat Reversal Sequence, Take 6.* The air smells like evaporated makeup. The only remaining prop is a cracked chrysanthemum medal on a velvet cushion. “They trained people to look certain,” she says. “Until the face became a script.” Outside, archived footage reels on—yet nothing inside the mirrors is ever quite synchronized.

Very Short Story:
Juna stepped into the center and smiled. The mirrors didn’t return the gesture. One version of her looked away. Judai whispered lines from a film he once saw in fragments: *Our tears are the soil.* The room flickered as if lit by projection from within. “They filmed emotions here,” Juna said. “And archived them as proof.” One mirror cracked—without sound, without source. A reflection of Judai held a notebook, but he wasn’t writing. They exited slowly, leaving behind infinite selves rehearsing something neither had yet felt.
