7.16. Judai Resees the Map of Shinkyo
(Location: Archival Projector Alcove, JOAC Side Gallery)
Description:
The room was barely lit—one projector, a faded wall map, and reels marked *SHINKYO (UNDECLARED)*. Judai threaded the film. What appeared on the wall was not a map but a performance: roads danced, buildings blinked out, rivers reversed. Shinkyo—the capital of a state that no longer confessed itself—became visible only in reflection. Juna joined him, recognizing patterns she'd seen in ceiling tiles and imperial seals. The reel trembled halfway through and displayed a single word in overlapping scripts: *Return*. No country was named. But the streets aligned with their own movements years ago, when they first met in an observatory far from here. The projector whined, then went silent. The wall now held only their shadows.

Very Short Story:
Judai watched the roads align and misalign. “That’s the hotel where we stayed,” Juna whispered. But it wasn’t. The film recorded a version of their memory, edited to imply they had always been inside this map. Street names flickered in kanji and Russian. One intersection read *Decision*, the next *Repetition*. Juna stepped closer to the wall. Her silhouette merged with a building marked *Observatory B*. “It’s not a map,” she said. “It’s a rehearsal.” They left quietly, unsure if the projector had shown the past, or merely a better-organized dream of it.
