7.21. The Misaligned Crater of Emperor Godaigo
(Location: Mausoleum Depth Fault, Yoshino Ascension Axis)
Description:
Beneath the mausoleum of Emperor Godaigo, where seasonal ceremonies are still conducted by memory alone, lies a narrow passage to the “Ascension Axis”—a geological seam mistaken for a shrine crack. Judai traced the fault with his palm. “It leads nowhere,” he said. “But insists.” At the end: a shallow crater, misaligned by precisely seven degrees from magnetic north. It was once believed to be a divine fall site. Juna stood silently beside it, noting how the light from above refused to enter. A camera mounted nearby was not theirs. “Someone else has already recorded this mistake,” she said. They stepped carefully back. Behind them, the soil shifted slightly—closing or exhaling.

Very Short Story:
They descended without torchlight. The walls pulsed faintly with geothermal heat, though no source was registered. At the crater's edge, Juna opened her book—but the ink ran upward. “I think we are beneath the bottom of a dream,” she said. Judai replied by sketching the rim’s misalignment into a circle. It didn’t close. “You can’t seal a fall,” he muttered. A faint film fluttered at the shaft’s far side—transparent, unsourced, windless. They didn’t touch it. But both felt touched by it.
