8.6. Oxygen Fire of the Skeleton Kings
(Location: Abandoned Performance Pit, Subterranean Loop G)
Description:
They entered a stone amphitheater that hadn’t been built—it had grown. Deep beneath Mitaka, surrounded by earth too warm for its depth, the pit pulsed with vapor trails. A script, burned into a sheet of titanium, lay at the center. The title: *Oxygen Fire of the Skeleton Kings.* Juna read the lines aloud. “Act II: When the body forgets what bones are for.” At once, the walls lit with brief flame. Silhouettes of crowned skeletons danced across the surface, repeating gestures that might have been orders… or regret. Judai took notes until the paper scorched. “The fire breathes oxygen from the future,” he said. “It’s remembering something that hasn’t happened yet.” They stayed until the flames danced slower, then retreated quietly into ash.

Very Short Story:
Juna performed the lines not as a recitation, but as a re-entry. Her voice bent with each syllable, and the walls sang back—crackling with each phrase. Judai filmed a segment, but on playback, the screen displayed only bone arrangements. “This fire isn’t for heat,” he said. “It’s for correction.” A skeleton with a crown bowed toward them once, then vanished. When the flame slowed, Judai touched the ashes. His fingers came back marked with letters: K I N G. Juna closed her book without looking. “This scene writes itself in us,” she said. Later, neither of them remembered how they got back above ground. But both carried the smoke in their lungs for weeks.
